Bruce's Bus Collection

When I was in the States for the VW Classic etc, I had the pleasure of meeting quite a few 'Bus People' and we have already been fortunate  to see the very impressive collection of Mark Rafferty. I am now pleased to share with you Bruce's VW Collection. I was lucky enough to meet Bruce at Johnny's pool party and as you can see from the pictures of his own workshop and buses, Bruce is a dedicated Bus Fanatic. Over to you Bruce.........

These picturess are of my rusty but soon to be daily driver 60 SO23 camper. It came up for sale after I had already bought the 61 SO23 camper from New York. Since I want to totally restore the 61 SO23 camper this one will be my daily driver until then. I don't know too much history on this one and I have not been able to even begin to take it apart but I think it will make for a fine camping machine.

These two pictures are of my 61 SO23 camper and my slammed walk thru 59 Kombi. I have had the 59 for about two years, it had such a rusty roof when I acquired and that was the first thing to go. I welded a new roof on it but with all my other projects that is about as far as I have come. The plan for this is to keep it slammed and to put a big motor in it. The SO23 is the one that I got from Long Island, New York and it's interior is soooooo nice, I plan to fully restore it. Time and $!!!

These are pictures of my daily driver a '67 Kombi which has 62000 original miles and also has all original paint. I acquired this one from a friend locally, but it originally came from Tallahassee, Florida where an old lady had it stored in a pole barn for seven years after her husband died (it was his). I am the fourth owner of this beauty!!

Here are couple pics of my 65 crew cab, I have had it for about a year now. It came from Ohio so needless to say it has some lower body rust, but it's a good ole truck. Don't pay any attention to that Jetta, unfortunately it is my wife's (she likes A/C).

Update 24 NOV 2001

Yes it's true, Bruce has bought another bus to add to his already impressive collection, this bus is a 1954 RHD barndoor single cab all the way from Australia! I'll let Bruce take it from here....

The single cab has landed. Mark Rafferty and I went to Miami last Friday. What a joke we spent 7 hours in customs, you have to show a passport to prove that you are a US citizen. I don't even have a passport but, we got it back ok. The bus is in better shape than I thought it would be!

Update 27 JAN 2004

I thought I would email you pics of the progress on the 61 westy. Mark R will be getting it soon to do the metal work since I don't have a lot of time these days!! I just basically got it prepped for him and then I am having a friend who paints do the original paint on it! I will send updated pics as the project moves along!

Update 20 FEB 2004

Here are some recent pics of the ole gal at the world famous Bus Transfer, aka Mark Rafferty's shop. It seems to be coming along pretty smooth for him and the metal work. He says it may be done within the next week. Pictures really don't do justice for the actual quality of his work. Once it is done with him I will send more pics and then I get to sweat my ass off getting it ready for paint.
