Mike bought
the Van in August last year from a guy in Coventry called Ian Muldoon
who had owned it from Jan 99. Before that a guy called Gary Finch bought
and shipped it from California in Jan 98. The Van is in great condition
with only a small area in the cab floor & battery tray needing a
small amount of welding. The body had a few dings, but was totaly
original with no damage to the bodywork apart from a knock on the nose.
The original spec of the van is ;-
M002 ?
M425 seatbelts
M081 walk-through
M114 Six opening windows
M130 microbus Deluxe without
sunroof or windows
M733 ?
Lower Body Sea Blue
Upper Blue
White
Mesh Grey Trim
As you can see from your picture the van came with
full Deluxe trim, chrome US Spec bumpers, front safaris, 4 Bow westy
rack, VW dealer period 6V radio and had been slammed. When Mike
bought the van, my intentions were only to replace all rubbers and
replace the interior All the windows have been blasted and powder coated
in the same shade and even the insides of the bumpers and mounts have
been powder coated black. Once all back together I think it should look
good sitting on the set of replica BRM's purchased at Vanfest. The
interior will have a new stock headlining and I intend to get the seats
covered in Mesh Grey. When I bought the van it came with a Westy
interior inc rock n roll bed, sink, table etc. Mike has
decided not to use this but to place in my attic for safe keeping and
remake a new one from the patterns. You are probably thinking why, but
the wife doesn't like the old westy and the main reason we bought the
van in the first place is to use it to get away at weekends?

1965 double door Samba. The bus is a LHD
Swedish import which I have owned for just over a year, recently selling
my 56 bus to fund the continued restoration. I have stripped the entire
bus back to bare metal and it is currently being welded, needing most of
the usual repair panels available. I estimate that the welding will be
finished by May and then it will be repainted in its original sea blue /
white. It is to be rebuilt mostly to stock but will be fitted with an
early bay Devon camping interior. I will keep you updated on the progress. |

1965 lhd samba, deluxe originally for the German market, nice project. |

JNP 702C - 1965 samba I spent 2 years putting
the bus back together, running round every show like a demented nutter,
handing out money that grew on my Samba tree in the garden. I hand rust
effect hair, frost bite and blood stained hands for two years. That's
history, I have now got a beaming Samba smile, know the feeling
(priceless). My bus runs like a dream, I slammed in a brand new engine
just for reliability. Planted another Samba tree in the garden, new
engine bits soon & those Empi copies have to go !!

1965 - Ex Swiss samba, BYK 143,
owned by Adrian Biggs, in the process of being restored. Will try and keep
you up to date with it's progress. |

1965 LHD samba, owned by Dan Buzzo from
Cambridge, the bus is originally from Germany and features a sliding side
loading door, ambulance fans, it's complete apart from the rearmost bench
seat. It's been blown in in seablue and is pretty much refitted now,
future plans are... a hot 1776 motor, 12 volt covert ion and IRS the back end, also he is hopping to fit 18 inch Porsche
turbo cups, good luck dude, hope you can get those wheels under the arches, I will keep you posted with it's progress. |

1965 13 deluxe, photo taken at the Run To
The Sun, I do not have any info on this bus but I do think it looks
excellent in yellow with the BRM wheels.

CCD615C - 1965 RHD deluxe, photo taken at
the SSVC AGM in 1989. at the time the bus was owned by Nigel Clark.
It had it's first restoration by Alan Schofeild and was absolutely
gorgeous, it used to win prizes for a pass time. it had a full Devon
interior, including awning etc. don't know how he got his wipers to work
like that but they did! The last time I saw this bus was a the RTTS in
Cornwall in 1998, it was then owned by a guy called Steve. It would be
nice to see it again.

DWC221T - This photo was taken at the
first Peppercorn meet, the bus was still in the process of being restored.
As you can see the front trim has not been replaced yet and I notice it is
in need of a period number plate. Check out those wide steel rims, well
tuff! not sure who the bus belongs to but it looked good.

COJ 297C - 1965 deluxe RHD, this photo
back back as bit, VW Action 1990, Any one seen this one lately? This was
the show that the S.S.V.C. smashed the bus push record to pieces, I think
it still stands!

 |
KPD911C - 1965 Deluxe micro bus RHD, pic
1 was taken in about 1993 at a show called Beetle Juice, the van had a cal
look theme to it and was a cool bus in it's time (how fashions change),
Pic 3 was taken at Bug Jam in about 1996/7 and as you can see from this
shot the deluxe as been returned to it's original colour scheme. Not sure
who owns it now but I'm pretty certain that they will be interested to see
it in it's old guise.

CBF 569C - 1965 Devon interior samba,
owned then by a guy called Sid Gifford from Devon, since then the bus has
changed hands, it now belongs to Ian Knight who has had it for several
years , he has lowered it and put a nice sound system in it but apart from
that the bus hasn't really changed that much. photo taken at BVF 1990

 |
J28922 - 1965 deluxe, this bus came all
the way from Guernsey to partake in BVF 97, I cant remember the owners
name but I believe it is permanently in the UK now.

 |
8434 RZ - 1965 RHD deluxe, this photo
was taken at BVF 2000, the couple who own it are both retired, and they
also have a panel van that is even lower!! Respect!! This bus is quit
unusual in terms of colour, apparently it has always been sealing wax red
as appose to the standard selling wax red and beige grey. the interior is
the original Devon, very nice
Update 13 OCT 2001
Just to let you know so that you can update your records, I am now the
owner of the 1965 Sealing Wax red split, reg 8434 RZ
I bought it the other week from a Paul Rees in Leighton
Buzzard & I have now shipped it over to Guernsey in the Channel Islands. The
reg is now 9684. Yes, numbers only! In Guernsey we have no prefixes on our
plates - no letters at all - just numbers!!
Its V5 says that it is a 1965 bus however, according
to 'The Samba.Com', a bus with a chassis no. of 1300600 is actually a '64
bus. It must then be a 64 bus that wasn't registered till 65?
I have also looked up 'wolfsburgwest.com/colors' &
according to them models 221-228, 281, 285, 241-244 from 8/1/63 - 31/7/64
were all sealin wax red below the waistline & beige grey above the
waistline. It seems odd then that the retired couple who used to own it say
that it was sealing wax red all over from new, hmmm, strange?
Still it is a great bus and is really solid, it was
definitely a good buy!
I am trying to get it insured & the insurance company
say they require proof of an agreed value. How well do you know the bus? Is
this something you are able to assist with?
Many Thanks
