1964 13 window deluxe, owned
by Shawn Brown, bought it in March '02 from a guy in Yorkshire, It lives
in Brighton now and has had a full restoration. Sills, both creative side
panels lower front panels, windscreen repairs, dog legs, rear corners etc
etc. but its turned out great with a bare metal spray job, it was a bit
risky sticking with black but there's next to no ripples thanks to the
body shop (Shawn did all the metalwork!), cool bus! |

1964 rhd deluxe, owned by
Adrian Aubrey
I bought the bus recently from a guy in Bushey, he
in turn bought it less than a year ago from the bloke that did the resto
(I think). I have a complete photo history of the resto which included all
the usual bits, rear qtrs, rear arches, cab steps and complete load floor
and new belly pans, all the rest was OK.
The work isn't too bad but it looks like they've
either run out of money or interest as the final preparation before
spraying isn't that good, however I'm not into minters so it'll do for a
couple of years. The interior is Dormobile but out of a bay (this will get
changed at some point for a custom one), everything else is there and
correct (window catches, clock etc).
It's running Red 9 kit up front and at the moment
has just been turned down a spline out back.
It's off top Terry's next week (providing Creative
pull their fingers out and send me the kit I paid for 3 weeks ago!!!) for
a Creative IRS set up using 75 bay backing plates and creative drilled
drums, I'll be using Toxic shocks and I've had a box built by Peter at the
Cog box with the usual welded 3rd & 4th, strengthened side plates,
steel selectors, superdiff etc.
At present it's running a standard 1600TP but once
I've got it all up and running as a reliable everyday vehicle it will be
getting a warm 2.0litre lump which will hopefully grant me access to the
BWA!
Other things that will be going in over the next few
weeks are a new propex heater, an empi trigger shifter, a cab bunk, some
rear lap belts that came out of an Air France Concorde (in red - nice),
about £2k's worth of Clarion sat nav, TV, DVD, X Box, amp, subs etc etc -
Oh and a new set of Raders that I already have from BBT with 145's up
front and 195's out back. Phew - it was hard work typing it (and I'm sure
I just heard my wallet cry in pain!!).
If you have a look at this address you can see what
it looks like at the moment - more to be posted when it's back from Terrys. |

Sam de-Ville found the bus
(which is now owned by Marc) whilst travelling around Europe in my Westfalia, to know how hard it is to
get flat arrow straight bodywork, the bus is a 64
Have some big ideas in store for it, already have
the IRS parts are built and a tasty engine, can't wait for the winter !!!

Nick Miller's 13 window 1964 deluxe, more
details to follow. |

1964 lhd 21 window Samba, owned by
Christian Peck, West London. This bus was seen advertised on a French
vehicle at a British show, back in 1999, to cut a long story short
Christian went over and got it, 700 miles round trip. The bus has been
barn stored for the last 15 years! and retains most of it's original
interior features. Plans are a very big engine and running gear upgrades,
this bus is going to rock, believe me! |
 |
My old 1964 rhd, with loading doors on the right hand side
of the bus, 1835 engine, IRS'ed, 16" alloys Kicking sound system,
etc., etc., photo taken at VW Action 1995, with DJ Simon Watson doing the
business all week end. The 64 was built by John Devoux around 94, I only
owned it for about a year, but enjoyed the bus big time! |

 |
1964 21 window deluxe, owned by Paul
Oates, Apparently this bus was originally registered in Chilli in 1964,
where it stayed until 1992, the bus was then exported over to Switzerland
and it's from here in December 1994 that it was finally imported into the
UK (Sheffield to be exact) by a Mr Steve Walker. He then sold her
onto a lad called James Mead from Souldrop in Bedfordshire, Paul then
bought it from James in June 2000, does all that make sense?
Since Paul got the bus he has modified a few things, i.e..Mild suspension
drop (James had already fitted an adjuster to the from beam and Paul just
made full use of it!)
Fitted straight axle kit (with help from Steve Walker another)
Fitted 2.1 type 4 motor
Fitted Berg shifter
Fitted monster tach + oil + temp gauges
Fitted full length roof rack
Bottom half of bus re painted in a matt finish
Fitted safari windows
Fitted BRM replicas
All in all a really nice powerful bus! |

JHR 451B - 1964 LHD samba, photo
taken at Run To The Sun, do you own this bus? have you got any details
about it? |
 |
HML154B - 1964 Deluxe RHD, believe it or
not this bus was once a kombi, the guy who owned it had a non retrievable
samba and decided to fabricate all the appropriate parts on to his other
bus, also you will notice that all the door handles have been shaved.
Picture taken about 1994 at a KK swap meet. |
 |
ACM989B - 1964 RHD deluxe owned by Bob,
the bus has a full Devon interior and was originally restored by
Alan Schofield. It has been on the scene for many years now, and has been
featured in VolksWorld
magazine. Lee Griffiths owned it for a few years, then sold it to bob (I
believe) in about 1999. The bus has been
out of action for a while but according to Bob will be around again this
season, excellent! |

 |
1964 RHD samba undergoing restoration, I
took this pic just out side of a place called Pangbourn Nr Reading in
1991, I think that it must be done by now, unfortunately I don't have a
registration for this one so if you recognize it or know who owns it get
in touch! |
 |
XFX 403B - 1964 LHD Swedish import, this
pic was taken at the first VolksWorld show, it was up for sale and was
sold, don't know how much for or who bought it. |

BHE 950B - 1964 LHD American import,

LMD 49B - 1964 LHD 21 window samba,
photo taken at KK Swap meet down at Runnamead Hall, Southend 1997. Can't
remember the name of the happy person driving it, but it's still around.
Updates 09 MAR 2002
New colour and new owner, Dave English. Interestingly, this bus was
originally from New York City USA. |
