She is a 1962 23 deluxe reg 752 UXS
originally from New York, imported here i believe about 2-3 years ago, she
had been standing since 1974 so in pretty bad shape, as far as i know the
first owner did a little work but nothing much then Rick from Schofields,
who i bought it off, had her fully restored in the last 8 months. Matt
Smith of Cornwall doing the full resto. He also made and fitted the repro
57 Devon interior. She now lives with me and my girlfriend Tin, in sunny
Birmingham!! Think that's about it :) |

Keith Turner's 1962 lhd samba, I think
the pictures say it all! |

 |
Bobby Willcox's, 62. LHD deluxe, imported
from Germany. Condition is not to good but hey, it's a 23 window samba! |

 |
1962 rhd deluxe, not sure who owns this
as yet but I will find out. The bus is powered by a 2,7 flat six Porsche
motor including the 5 speed gear box! Peachy!! |

 |
One very hard looking 1962 hardtop
deluxe, owned by Andy and Suzanne Fleet. This bus is originally from the States. Check
out the ride height on those fully polished Porsche telephone dial wheels,
very cool! The bus will stay as it is for the summer season then will get
the full treatment next fall. I will keep you posted. |
 |
1962 double loading door, RHD deluxe! how
rare is this baby! owned by Mick and Dawn Belshaw from Wakefield. The bus
is originally from Sweden, but now is in the UK. The samba is in the
process of being restored Mick and Dawn. |

1962 Deluxe Microbus LHD - chassis number
1004242 Owned by Shaun Richardson from Redruth in Cornwall. This deluxe
was first registered in Austria on 13 November 1962, it still has the
original logbook from a Porsche/VW dealer in Salzburg. In its forty-year
history the bus has had 4 owners and 5 engines!
Substantial work was required on this samba
including new outriggers, jacking points, inner and outer sills and center
chassis rails. The bus is now on the road for the first time in about 15
years and is UK registered - LAS 913.
Future plans include sorting out the minor rust on
the rest of the bodywork, fitting smart wheels and stashing the 1200cc
motor and replacing it for something a little more powerful. The photos
were taken before the work started and the paintwork is now a mixture of
snot green and red primer.
Shaun also has a fairly smart 1960 SO-23 Westy
(nearly ready for the road) a 63 Microbus (no floors/no sills) and a 64
Eriba Puck
Update 27 May 2005
Van is now owned by Graham Williams |

 |
1962 RHD 23 window deluxe, Swedish
import, owned by Simon Tomlin. I saw this bus at Slough last year (2001),
and as you can see it needs quit a bit of work, however it's a 23 RHD so
it has to be worth it! hopefully Simon will keep us up to date with it's
progress. |

1962 deluxe owned by Gareth Jones in Bude,
Cornwall. This guy is unbelievable! he has really gone to town on this bus.
Originally the bus was LHD, not only has he converted it to RHD, but he has
also moved the loading doors to the other side of the van, (major work) he
has replaced the LHD dash with a RHD unit as well as the foot pedal cluster.
As you would expect the rear suspension has now been irs'ed, and up front
all sorts of trickery have be installed. The chassis rails have been
narrowed on both sides by 5"!! The front beam has been narrowed 2.5"
either side!! Even more incredible
is the 5" that he has raised the beam vertically up the chassis rails!! as
you can see from the picture this has allowed lots of room for decent size
tyres up front, you cant really see the offset of the wheel from this angle
but let me tell you it's mega! What you can't see from this picture is the
hassle of having to raise the steering box so that it doesn't grind out on
the deck, and the shortening of the steering column so that the steering
wheel is not up by your forehead!! obviously the front wheel arches had to
be tub'ed out, along with some new bench seat brackets
manufactured. The ribbed spoked raider wheels are my old ones, and boy am I
glad that they are on this cruiser, Gareth is in the process of detailing
them, polished magnesium alloy spokes over gloss black, nice! The motor is
an injected 2 ltr type 4 unit with an upright porsche fan conversion, this
should make easy cruising up to the shows next season. The bus is
(hopefully) going to be débuted on the SSVC stand at the Volksworld show in
March 2002, I cant wait to see it on the road.....What a ride!
17 DEC 01 update:
The wheel tubs are now finished and it doesn't rub on
full lock anymore.
However, I had to tub the inner door panels to accommodate the wheel arch
tubs.
It looks FAAANNNNN-tastic. |

4050 VW - 1962
LHD samba, owned by Penny Weir down in Cornwall. Probably one of the
hottest show buses in the country!! no expense has been speared, all
safari's and pop out's are stainless steel, all seats are leather, all the
glass has been tinted, this bus has to be seen. If you look carefully
inside it you can see that the pop out's open from the bottom out. Dave
Palmer at Creative Engineering had a lot to do with the restoration of
this bus. Now owned buy Neil Mackenzie in North Wales. |

 |
Q880 MPU - 1962 RHD Australian import,
photo taken at Stoner park 1998 Paul Smith down at Karman Konnection
imported this bus in to the UK in about 1995/6 not sure who's got it now
but it is around. If I remember rightly I think the bus has been straight
axel'ed.
Update 19 JUN 2002
Deluxe owned buy Paul Smith, the bus was imported from Sweden by Richie
King. The samba was original sealing wax red and beige grey. I seem to
remember this bus was in need of a new head liner the last time I saw it,
however it looks ok in this picture. Check out the chrome porsche wheels
and those awesome over riders. |
 |
CMP 776A - 1962 RHD deluxe, Devon
interior, white over yellow (though you'd never know from this photo).
This bus was owned by Cathy O'Brian a few years ago but was sold and now
resides somewhere in Kent. The photo was taken at Stoner Park 1991 |
 |
55 SKL - Richie
King's fresh 1962 RHD Samba, I went to look at this bus when he first got
it and it is one of the most original vans that I have ever seen, it has
never been painted, never been wielded, never been dented, the Devon interior
is like new. The bus will get it's debut at Sandown 2001, well worth a
look at if you get the chance. |
